For there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.—Shakespeare

#Happiness is about waking up and looking forward to the day in front of you. It is about enjoying Monday through Thursday instead of always wishing for Friday to come. It is about cherishing the present moment instead of constantly living in the past or daydreaming about the #future. Happiness is about being here, #now, instead of letting yourself worry about the "what ifs".

I was once a young girl, who didn't have toys to play with, no television, no social media, the only music that I knew to dance to was from the old cassette radio that my mother would only allow us to touch when she needed to listen to her vernacular songs ( I use to and still  dance to them once in a while although now I play via Youtube). But I did have an inspired and creative mind taking sticks and playing with them or making toys out of old fabrics maybe a lot of you can relate to this.

One day I pick up and stick and run to the nearest tree (the only tree that would grow beautiful red flowers only in December) Just before running into it, I stop and gasps in amazement.  I look up with alot of admiration tilting my head ever so slightly to the left wondering how could it be possible from January - November you are so dry and just only this season you  bloom, aaah maybe its a sign, my small brain wonders And although I can’t quite comprehend how interconnected and vital the tree is to me and the world around me, I knew there is something magical about it.

For me, that was true happiness just gazing at the wonder of the universe. and upon recalling I spend the entire day being happy. Afterall, happiness is her natural state of being. Floating around her everywhere, as obvious as the stars in a clear night’s sky.

But, as I grew into an adult my outlook on life changed. I begin to question everything about my childhood and life and shifts into a state of despair. “Why is life so unfair?” I wondered. Happiness is now nothing more than a mirage existing somewhere in the far off distance — quickly diluting and disappearing as the distance grows shorter. “Who am I?” I question my mind unsettlingly. The little girl who once defended her kingdom with nothing more than a stick had somehow slipped away like her fantasies. She was replaced with an uncertain and fearful woman who is so caught up in the undertow of my day-to-day life that she stopped searching for more.

After all, Now I have bills, responsibilities and a job. I grew complacent with life—never asking for or seeking more. But deep down somewhere within me I longed for that little girl :)

Truth is we all get buried to our now and illusionary life that we miss out on life little gratitude and happiness, so this is how you come back:

1. Random Acts of Kindness Carrying out five random acts of kindness a week dramatically improves your happiness. We don’t naturally think about paying for someone’s coffee, mowing your neighbor’s lawn, or writing a thank you note to your apartment building security guard at Christmas.  Try the random act today and thank me later.

2. Believe in yourself: As Henry David Thoreau famously said, “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you’ve always imagined.” You are powerful. Tremendously so. But, your inner kingdom cannot be ruled without a ruler. Believe in yourself, and believe in your purpose even if you do not yet understand what it is or how it will come to be. Once you start to believe, you will unleash your personal power, and that power is a force to be reckoned with.

3. Hit Flow ( new discovery act) Get into a groove. Be in the zone. Find your flow. However you characterize it, when you’re completely absorbed with what you’re doing it means you’re being challenged and demonstrating skill at the same time. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi describes this moment as “being completely involved in an activity for its own sake. The ego falls away. Time flies. Every action, movement, and thought follows inevitably from the previous one, like playing jazz. Your whole being is involved, and you’re using your skills to the utmost.”

4. 5-Minute Meditations something new that I have discovered that has helped me become that little girl over and over again. Learn more about meditation here

5.  Five Gratitudes If you can be happy with simple things, then it will be simple to be happy. Find a book or a journal, or start a website, and write down three to five things you’re grateful for from the past week.  Charles Dickens puts this well: “Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has many, not your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.”

Remember You can find happiness in anything, in everything. It’s all about how you choose to receive it. But I think, the most important thing of all is, never ever place your happiness in the hands of someone else rather than your own self.
